Christopher Hadfield was born on January 16, 1826 in Glossop, Derbyshire, England. He is the son of Joseph Hadfield and Mary Lee. They were the parents of two children, John Hadfield, born on April 28, 1852, and Betty Hadfield, born on March 6, 1854 and died a year later on April 28, 1855.
Christopher was the overseer or the manager of a large cotton factory in good standing. He owned three lovely homes on Harrup Street. The middle home is where he lived with John, his son, and Mary, and their children. Christopher, who had been widowed twice, consequently sold the homes and belongings and left with John and Mary when they left for the gospel’s sake and the new world of America.
He spent the rest of his life in Grouse Creek, dying on February 14, 1903, three years after arrival, and is buried there. Mary Bennett died on September 24, 1855. Both Mary and Hannah Bennett, his other wife, are buried in England.
